Membership Application Procedure
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Company. Our department started in 1919. We are an Engine and Rescue company, on average running approximately 220 calls per year. Our goal is to provide professional services to the citizens and neighboring fire departments of the Town of Tonawanda, Village of Kenmore, and surrounding areas.
We look forward to meeting with you and helping you start on a new and exciting journey. Below are the application steps:
- Complete and sign the attached application. If you are under 18 years of age your Parent or Legal Guardians signature will also be required.
- Have the attached fingerprints card completed by the Town of Tonawanda Police Department. You can go to the station during walk-in hours from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. or 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Submit your completed application, a current photograph of yourself, and a $20.00 application fee to the Secretary or Chief of the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Company. Please call 716-838-1219 Ext 2 to make an appointment.
When your application is returned it will be reviewed at out next Company meeting. After reviewing your application, you will be contacted to schedule an in-person interview with representatives from our interview committee. This is where you will need to fill out a record release form and an arson records form which will be submitted by the chief, who will also receive the results.
Your application time will generally be between 2-4 months from receipt of your application and records check. If there are any questions, please call 716-838-1219 Ext 2.

Probation Firefighter Requirements
Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Company probationary fire training requirements are designed to help you become an effective professional firefighter serving the residents of the Town of Tonawanda and surrounding areas. Training and equipment are provided at no cost to you. As with our regular members there will be requirements that need to be met to help you be successful.
- Maintain a call percentage of 35% or higher over your probationary period.
- Attend a minimum of 15 drills per year. There are generally 4 or more drills that take place per month on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
- Attend State Fire Training (BEFO, IFO, or Boot Camp) within your first year. Many of these classes take place within Erie or Niagara County.
- Attend Basic Skills class to prepare you for your prerequisites for State class. This class will also familiarize you with the basic training on your bunker gear, equipment, and the basic skills of a firefighter.
- A weekly apparatus checklist will need to be completed on an assigned apparatus. Your training officer will send you assignments monthly. When completed you will report to your Training Officer.
You will be assigned to a Training Officer who will help you over your probationary training period. These officers will be your primary point of contact along with the Chief. Within your first week after swearing in your Training Officer will contact you to meet and review these requirements and answer any questions you may have.
